Beto Montag

 

 

Has began his musical career at 19 years old as a rock drummer. Two years later, he was invited to join the Bicho de Pé group with whom he had contact with Brazilian rhythms and toured by several states of the country. Graduated on Symphony Percussion by ECA-USP  with prof. Carlos Tarcha (2005).In the same year, graduated on Jazz Vibraphone at EMESP with prof. Beto Caldas. He is currently one of the most active vibrafonists in Brazil in the popular music area. Recorded/participated  with artists like: Alzira Espinola, Renato Goda, Toni Ferreira, Barbara Eugenia, Bobby Martin, Bocato, Chimpanze Clube Trio, Miranda Kassin, Geronimo Santana, among others. Worked with musical producers like Arthur Jolly, Beto Villares, Sergio Soffiatti, Daniel Ganjaman, Jesus Sanches , Alexandre Fontanetti and conductor Gil Jardim. He was also the percussionist of "Oceano" and "DNA" circus show, (2008-2012). In 2009 , he was the soloist with the Young Symphony Jazz Orchestra of São Paulo in the Beto Caldas' Concerto for Marimba, Vibraphone and Orchestra. Lived one year in Quebec, Canada, where he played by the regional festivals with great local musicians. Back in Brazil, he continues touring by the Canadian province, invited by festivals like: Tam Tam Macadam (September/2012), Festival de musique de création ( mai/2013 ) and Kenougami en Fête (sept/2012). Back in Brazil in 2007, he has been giging with Martinez, Otis Trio, Faria & Mori, Liquidus Ambiento, The Central Scrutinizer Band (Frank Zappa tribute) , Me & the Plant, Chimpanze Club Trio , among others. 2013 marks the release of the albums  "50 graus " (Martinez-Agua Forte label),  "Oyster" (Liquidus Ambiento-independent) and "74 Club" (Otis Trio, Far Out Recordings label, London, England). The past three years have also been intense on the area of music education. Taught at Projeto Guri (2010) and at Auditório do Ibirapuera School (2010-2012), where he also composed some pieces for percussion chamber music. He is currently coordinator, percussion teacher and also conductor of the Education department of the Guarulhos City since 2010, where children and adults can have classes, band rehearsals and workhops for free.
